Peru: Colca Valley Tourism on the Rise
Over the course of 2008, so far around 100,000 national and foreign tourists have visited the Colca Valley, a tourist attraction located in Caylloma province (Arequipa), reported José Luis Talavera, general manager of Colca Autonomous Authority.
'The number of visitors is increasing', he said. “Last year we attracted about 100,000 tourists for the entire year while this year, so far, we have received more than that many already, and we still have 3 months left.” He indicated that the tourist flow in Colca Valley has generated over 1.6 million dollars in revenue from tourist ticket sales alone, and that this money is invested primarily in restoration projects of the zone. Talavera also said that these resources are being used in the execution of works such as the maintenance of the Colca valley roads and promotion of colonial churches located in the Caylloma district, among others.

Destination Hi-Light: Granada, Nicaragua
Granada was founded in 1524 and holds the title of oldest city established on mainland during the Spanish conquests. The city has a fascinating history… During colonial times Granada was attacked several times by pirates.
Later, the city traded the title of Capital back-and –forth with Leon before Managua was finally chosen. Eventually, Granada was sought after, captured, and destroyed by North American filibusters. Nowadays, Granada is the most-visited city in Nicaragua. Granada is located 47 kilometers from Managua, and can be reached without much effort. The historical city-center is a great place to stroll around or take a traditional horse-pulled carriage to see the sights.
