New Palermo Soho Hotel - Argentina

Watching giant sea turtles return to the same beaches where they have laid their eggs for millennia is an important economic activity in Costa Rica’s tourism industry. The World Wildlife Foundation has launched a website that shows all the best-prepared beaches for each of the five sea turtle species. With this information, visitors can see which turtles arrive at which beaches, and when. “The page has a calendar and interactive map that allows visitors to plan their trip and support the economy of communities that have decided to protect their natural resources,” said Carol Drews, the WWF’s coordinator of the Marine Program and Species in Latin America and the Caribbean in a statement.

Peruvian hotel chain Casa Andina reported that by the end of 2010 they will develop a new concept and format in super luxury hotels. “Our goal is to build a complete premium hotel… in other words, quality, infrastructure and services, among other aspects,” the General Manager of Casa Andina Hotels said. In that sense, he pointed out that in 2010, one of the main goals of the company will be to create a project of this kind. “We want for this new kind of hotel to meet the requirements of world class high-end establishments, which means the very top,” he told Andina News Agency. He also noted that the first hotel of this category in Peru will be built in Cusco, close to the Main Square of this city. “The most important thing is that we have now bought the property, and we are finishing the details regarding the kind of hotel we will build, because we want to create something spectacular,” he added.

Lima will become the capital of the travel industry in Latin America when it houses the Travel Mart Latin America (TMLA) 2010, to be held from September 22 - 24, reported Peru's Hotels Society (SHP). "Some 950 delegates are expected to attend the event. They are buyers and sellers from Latin America, the United States, Europe, Asia, Europe and Oceania, interested in knowing the history, archaeological and cultural riches that Peru offers," said the SHP general manager, Tibisay Monsalve. The TMLA is recognized worldwide for its reputation of quality and results since it was created in Lima 30 years ago, said the general coordinator of the event. "For this event, there are worldwide buyers of tourism products and services, interested in Central and South American destinations and also vendors and representatives from each country in the region," he said.

The user can enter the name of a common vegetable or animal species and it will immediately bring up the scientific name and any “related species”. When the search is entered, the page will show data about where the species lives, what it eats, when it eats and sleeps, and even offers the opportunity to look at detailed photos. As an additional service, the site has a map with all the conservation areas in the country, with specific dimensions and existing laws for each one. It also shows the access permits to genetic resources that are granted by authorities in the country.
